The home of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Fones, at this place, has again been
saddened by the death of their oldest son, John, from measles, on
Friday last, in the 14th year. This is the second child Mr. and Mrs.
Fones have lost inside of a week with measles. The sympathy of the
community is with the breaved family. The other sick members of this
family are recovering.

[298] BIO:The "Northern Neck" Newspaper of Richmond CO. VA. July 31, 1914. On
Saturday, May 30, 1914, "Mr. T. M. FONES came to a very untimely end
being killed by lightning while seated in his house surrounded by
members of the household. He had just reached home from Farnham,
having hurried to get there out of the storm which was threatening,
and had only been in the house a few minutes, When the fatal bolt
struck the house, killing him and stunning several members of his
family. Mr. FONES was 61 yrs of age, he leaves a widow Mrs. Bettie
FONES, four sons, Messrs. Jeter, William, George and Edwin, and two
daughters, Mrs Wayland LEWIS and Mrs. Willie LUSBY. The deceased was
born near Warsaw, but had resided in the Farnham neighborhood for the
past ten or twelve years, where he was and favorably known. He was a
carpenter by trade, and was so bright and cheerful under almost all
conditions that we all liked to have him around, and we sadly miss
his cheerful voice as he would go about his work, joking and singing.
He was a kind and indulgent Husband and father. The deceased was for a
number of years a member of Menokin Baptist Church, but moved his
membership to the Cobham Park Baptist Church after its erection. He
was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining Jerusalem Baptist church.
Truly his home and the community have sustained a severe loss".

The "Northern Neck" Newspaper of Richomd CO. VA. Jun. 5, 1914 "One of
the most terrific electric storms of the season visted this section of
country last Saturday evening, doing considerable damage in Farnham
and Washington Districts. Mr Thomas FONES, who resided near Farnham,
was killed by lightning during the storm and his remains were entered
at Jerusalem Baptist Church on Sunday in the presence of the large
congregation that had assembled there to attend the Northern Neck
Sunday School Convention".
The Family Bible belonging to Edward C. FONES, Jr. list his
grandfathers name as "Tom FONES" and puts his place of birth as
Richmond CO., VA. on May 20, 1854, by E. Bruce FONES July 2000.
